When you hear the word smart – you get to think of a quick, fabulous and fashionable creature which is a complete package. The same thinking has prompted our PM to dream about new developed smart cities. Smart cities will be built and planned much better compared to present developed cities. Some important facets of life in smart cities will be that they will be safe and secure too. You won’t be confused while finding your destination and you’ll have prior information about possible parking spaces. Builders in Gurgaon, Noida, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and many other areas have started working on their projects keeping in view of smart cities model. DDA (Delhi Development Authority) has also started working on this model and has identified many areas like Karkardooma and Sanjay Lake (East Delhi) for brownfield development.
With working on smart cities government is also working on the challenges coming in the way of rapid and current urbanisation. It is being speculated that more than 300 billion will be invested in these smart cities and in most cases these projects will be executed in PPP (Public Private Partnership) model.
In simple words, smart cities are a dream that will be better alternative to present ways of unplanned urbanisation. These projects will be instrumental in fulfilling demand of quality infrastructure in India without which attracting good companies and talent will be a major problem for our country.
It is anticipated that out of 100 smart cities more than 12 will be developed in NCR area. Central Minister Venkaiah Naidu has also indicated that government has started work in conceptualisation and soon they will start procuring and allotting land to big developers for this.He has also emphasised that role of private sector will be very vital in development of these cities.To realise this long cherished dream govt will have to make changes in laws governing real estate. Government will have to give special focus on per capita income and consistent job creation in these smart cities as the cost of living in smart cities will be higher too.
In these smart cities citizen services like road and traffic, Signal system, Solid waste management, safety and security will be smart too. People will be able to live freely and focus on their life without any constraint.
